Introduction to Mountain Travel
Students will learn navigation, pacing, leadership, minimum impact camping and, if needed, ice axe technique. They also practice setting up natural belays, classic rappels and hand lines for negotiating steep terrain.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, you will know how to pack a backpack for a mountain trip, have basic navigational skills, know how to move through alpine terrain and have your first experience leading your peers. You will also understand “leave no trace” camping and know what to look for when planning, packing and preparing food for a hiking trip.
