Industry Networking

During COLT you live at Strathcona Park Lodge, the busiest outdoor education centre in Canada with more than 25 professional instructor/guides from around the world. Each year, we introduce approximately 3000 youth to the natural world through our outdoor education programs.

With our core values of living on the edge and challenge by choice we encourage ourselves and our students and guests to live outside of our comfort zone and try new things in a safe environment where trying is considered a success.

The employees that call the lodge home are welcoming and inspiring. They will be your friends and mentors and offer networking opportunities, which may help you segue into the professional outdoor scene.

Positive learning environment

Defined by our mission to teach the wonder, spirit and worth of people and the natural world through outdoor pursuits, the Strathcona community supports and encourages each other from the office staff to the maintenance crew. Our core values generosity of spirit and happy warrior remind us to think of others with kindness and compassion and to be a positive contributor to a team ourselves.

Every year the Lodge feels like family. You’ll eat at the same table as other Lodge guests, COLT instructors, staff and even the Boulding family who run the Lodge.

Alternative lifestyle

Strathcona Park Lodge is a self-contained off the grid community. All we do is inspired by our core values of stewardship and more with less. The entire operation is powered by a micro-hydro system. We also treat our own drinking water and heat some of it with passive solar technology.

Our kitchen creates meals that are nutritious, healthy and delicious and cater to a range of diets and dietary preferences. We work closely with local fishers and farmers to source as much food as possible from as close to the Lodge as practical. We care for our local environment and inspire others to care, too.

I learned that everyone comes from different walks of life and have different perspectives on life. COLT taught me to be more aware of these realities and how to build stronger relationships.
